Job description
The Developmental Pediatrician will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and treating a diverse array of developmental and behavioral challenges, internal diseases, and disorders in children from birth to adolescence.
Responsibilities of developmental pediatrics
- Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of children’s developmental, behavioral, and medical history to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Diagnostic Evaluation: Utilize standardized tools and assessments to evaluate developmental milestones, cognitive abilities, social skills, and adaptive functioning.
- Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each child’s unique needs, incorporating evidence-based interventions, therapies, and medications as appropriate.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including psychologists, therapists, educators, and social workers, to coordinate care and support services for patients and their families.
- Family Education and Support: Provide guidance, education, and support to families regarding their child’s diagnosis, treatment options, and strategies for managing developmental and behavioral challenges at home and in the community.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and rights of children with developmental and behavioral disorders, both within the healthcare system and in the broader community, to ensure access to appropriate services and resources.
- Research and Education: Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in the field of developmental pediatrics and participate in ongoing education and training activities to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and communication with other healthcare providers.
Requirements for developmental pediatrics
- Medical bachelor’s degree with 5 years of specialist study and training.
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Specialized training in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
- Minimum 2 years of hospital-based training.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Compassionate approach to client interactions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
