Nairobi — Kenya has been elected to chair the United Nations World Tourism Group’s (UNWTO) Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness, solidifying its place as a frontrunner within the world tourism trade.
The announcement was made on the first assembly of the committee held on the UNWTO headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
The Ministry of Tourism stated that Kenya gained the place after two rounds of voting, defeating robust bids from Thailand and Malta.
Tourism Cupboard Secretary Alfred Mutua termed the election an historic second for the nation because it places Kenya able of resolution making in issues that have an effect on tourism throughout the globe.
“This vote demonstrates the arrogance that UNWTO member states have in Kenya’s management and skill to steer the group’s agenda on tourism competitiveness,” Mutua stated.
