Flights have been briefly disrupted yesterday afternoon at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Worldwide Airport in Harare after a RwandAir aircraft with 65 passengers and eight crew en path to Cape City skilled a tyre burst throughout the take-off run, stopping use of the runway from 12:45pm to three:10pm.
Some airliners scheduled to land on the airport needed to wait or divert to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Worldwide Airport in Bulawayo.
In a press release, Airports Firm of Zimbabwe public relations and communications supervisor Mr Tonderai Mangombe stated there have been no accidents recorded on account of the tyre burst.
“RwandAir flight WB110 with 65 passengers and eight crew members en path to Cape City skilled a tyre burst throughout take-off run at 12:45pm leading to a short lived disruption of service on the runway. We’re happy to report that there have been no accidents recorded on account of this incident.”
Mr Mangombe stated security and well-being of all passengers and crew members have been of utmost significance to the corporate.
“We commend the swift response and professionalism of the RwandAir crew and the airport rescue and hearth combating companies in making certain the passengers’ security. The incident was resolved at 3:10pm, and we affirm that the runway was cleared and regular operations have now resumed at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Worldwide Airport,” stated Mr Mangombe.
The corporate thanked all concerned events, together with the RwandAir and Air Zimbabwe groups, for his or her cooperation, which resulted within the state of affairs being resolved rapidly.
